Happy First Day of NaNo 2019! Yes, I started writing at midnight on November 1st.
I had to. My characters were irritating me until I sat down and waited and waited and waited for the time stamp on my laptop to flip over to 12:00:00 11/1/2019. It took eons, folks. Eons.
And so, I started writing, encountering my first deviation from my carefully planned novel: my main characters changed their names. Yes, I planned their names, selecting them with great care and consideration. When I opened Scrivener and finally started writing at midnight, their names were completely different from the ones that I had so painstakingly chosen for them.
I’m still not sure how I feel about my characters taking things into their own hands and giving themselves new names. I know I can go back and change them, but I like the names they chose. They fit the characters and the story better.
To my fellow NaNo’ers, Happy NaNovember! Here’s to 50K words by 30 November.
